Creativity and Recycling at River Oaks Academy: Crafting Turtle Shells from Old Pots

At River Oaks Academy, we love to mix creativity with learning important lessons. Our Grade 1 art class recently took on a fun and meaningful project: making turtle shells from old pots. This activity helped students use their artistic skills while learning about the importance of recycling.

The classroom was full of excitement as students gathered old pots to create their turtle shells. By using these pots, the children saw how items we usually throw away can be turned into beautiful art. This project taught them to think creatively and see the value in reusing items.

Learning about recycling is very important. Through this project, students discovered that recycling helps keep our environment clean and saves resources. They learned that even small actions, like using old pots for art, can make a big difference.

Making the turtle shells was a lot of fun. The students enjoyed painting and decorating their turtles, making each one unique. This gave them a chance to be creative and express themselves while learning about taking care of the Earth. The finished turtles looked amazing, showing how much the students learned and enjoyed the project.

Parents and teachers were very proud of the students’ hard work and creativity. Seeing the students’ happy faces as they showed off their turtles was truly special. This project showed how art can teach important lessons and help students understand big ideas in a fun way.

At River Oaks Academy, we aim to give our students experiences that help them grow creatively and understand the world better. The Grade 1 turtle project is a great example of how we teach students to be creative and care for the environment.
