Hands on activity of our Pre-Nursery kids to complete their artistic masterpiece

At River Oaks Academy, the pre-nursery children recently delved into the fascinating world of birds through a creative and educational nest-making activity. This hands-on project was not just an art lesson; it was an immersive experience that combined learning with fun, allowing these young minds to explore nature and its wonders.

During the activity, the little hands of River Oaks’ youngest learners were busy at work, crafting nests with an impressive display of creativity and concentration. Using pink paper as the base, they artfully pasted eggs, adding black stripes to mimic the natural patterns found in real bird nests. This process was more than an exercise in art; it was a lesson in biology, teaching the children about the life cycle of birds and the importance of nests as a safe space for eggs and hatchlings.

The nest-making activity was designed to encourage sensory exploration and fine motor skill development. Handling different materials like paper, glue, and paint allowed the children to experience various textures and colors, enhancing their sensory awareness and coordination. Moreover, the task of pasting eggs and drawing stripes required precision and care, fostering the children’s attention to detail and patience.

Teachers at River Oaks facilitated this creative endeavor, guiding the children through each step, from conceptualization to completion. The activity also provided an excellent opportunity for storytelling, where teachers shared interesting facts about birds, their habitats, and how they build nests. This storytelling aspect added an educational depth to the activity, sparking curiosity and wonder in the children.

The nest-making project at River Oaks Academy’s pre-nursery was a joyful and educational experience, reflecting the school’s commitment to providing a holistic early childhood education. It was a perfect blend of art, nature, and learning, where the children not only created a piece of art but also gained knowledge and appreciation for the natural world. Through such activities, River Oaks nurtures creativity, curiosity, and a love for learning in its students from the very beginning of their educational journey.
